Welcome!

It is no secret that we live in a world with an ever changing economy.  One that requires resources, knowledge and momentum.  The Southeast Michigan Community Alliance (SEMCA) knows first-hand what it takes to get people motivated to succeed.   Whether it is aligning individuals with workforce resources – to informing individuals about prevention and substance abuse services – we’re the force that makes things happen!

No Worker Left Behind Update

SEMCA is pleased to report; the NWLB Training Program has become very popular with Michigan workers intent upon developing the new skills or education needed by employers in the changing Michigan economy. This is good news for our employers, individual workers, and the future of Michigan’s economy. The increased demand for NWLB has resulted in a tripling of the number of SEMCA-funded training participants in the most recent 12 months as compared to the immediately prior 12 months.

This increased demand led to the creation of a wait list for funding in August, 2009 for some customers seeking NWLB funding for the first time. Priority had to be given to those customers in long-term training that had previously received NWLB funding to allow them to complete their training within the limits of their approved plan. SEMCA Michigan Works! has been continuing the process for determining whether or not the customer qualifies for NWLB funding for the education/training program they have chosen to pursue. If it is determined they and their chosen training program are eligible for NWLB funding, they will be placed on a waiting list until such time that the funding becomes available.

Previously Funded NWLB Customers

As new funding becomes available we will prioritize first those customers who have already started NWLB-funded training but have not yet completed their program.

GREAT NEWS….MORE NWLB FUNDING APPROVED FOR SEMCA CUSTOMERS

Working with officials from the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth (DELEG), SEMCA has been aggressively pursuing additional state and federal funding for our training customers. This partnership has successfully secured over $8 million in additional training funds since October, 2009! These increased funds will allow SEMCA to begin moving some training customers off the funding wait list to allow them to begin their training program. SEMCA continues to work with DELEG to obtain even more federal training funding to meet the demand in the SEMCA region.
